When people think of piano, they almost always think of a black box that hosts strings and hammers and made out of wood. The M.Liminal, however, changed every single notion of what a piano can be as an instrument, and not only that, it boasts a power of a full concert grand and the richness of musical capabilities well beyond its design. With only 10 in the world, The Grand Signature Piano housed the only M.Liminal in Indonesia in its showroom at Plaza Indonesia, making it the most exclusive piano the world has ever seen. Priced at a little upwards of 6 billion idr, the M.Liminal is the epitome of luxury, bringing the world’s best musical engineering and the beauty of design.
Designed by NYT Line and French architect Philippe Gendre, Fazioli M.Liminal is dually inspired by music and the “sea,” creating a never before seen instrument that defies all expectation. The design relives tradition, but at the same time modernizing the idea of a classic piano. M.Liminal is the evocation of the design of sound, and the shape of music, the duality between the two elements that are as organically put together in one single instrument.
Re-thinking and developing the idea of Phillipe Gendre was no small feat for the Fazioli engineering department, employing many collaborations between the designer/architect and the engineers, making sure that every element was perfect. The choice to use different materials for the piano (the instrument is built with unusual materials such as stainless steel, aluminium and Plexiglass) is employed to make sure that the instrument stays true to the design while at the same time upholding the reputation of Fazioli pianos.

The instrument made its debut at the Cannes Boat Show in France after only 3 months of work, where the launch was very well-received. It was named “M.Liminal” at that moment, an imaginary name that recalls the adjective “liminal,” referring to something that is placed above the upper limit, going beyond any expectation possible. The instrument enjoys many accolades and exhibitions, from the NAMM Show in Los Angeles (USA) to Musicora in Paris (France) and Musikmesse in Frankfurt, Germany. In the summer of 2008, the grand piano was exhibited permanently at the Italian Pavilion of the EXPO in Zaragoza (Spain), and used for a number of popular concerts for visitors to the EXPO.

Praised as the “leading model” by not only designers and musicians but also from the luxury and interior design sectors, the M.Liminal is an original technological experiment that brought together manufacturing skills and innovative design, putting forth an aesthetic idea combined with musical excellence and engineering feat. The interest stirred by this musical instrument at world level is incredible: originals have been sold in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Germany, Canada and the United States, and one of the M.Liminal is now residing in Nur Lounge at the Fairmont Baku - Flame Towers in Azerbaijan.
“The Grand Signature Piano is proud to host the M.Liminal in its showroom in Plaza Indonesia, bringing not only the amazing musical ability of a Fazioli piano, which is the best in the world, but also the beauty of the design,” Dr. Edith Widayani, the Brand Ambassador of The Grand Signature Piano commented. “We are different because we not only believe in the excellence of the musical instrument, but how the instrument can reflect the aesthetic through design and customization. We sell and create one-of-a-kind pianos, made exclusively for our clients, reflecting their own taste, sophistication, and appreciation towards the finer things in life.”
